Our Curriculum
Math- Our math curriculum is Harcourt Mathematics. It is a balanced, developmentally appropriate approach to math instruction. We use hands-on activities to explore the concepts along with a consumable text. Our mathematics textbook is formatted much like a workbook but including story books that emphasize mathematic concepts for students to enjoy at school and at home. It is engaging and colorful. We work with our students as a whole group, in small groups, and individually. Our KinderCougars really enjoy math time!
Open Court Language Arts- Open Court is a wonderful phonics based program that produces excellent readers and spellers with strong vocabularies. It is a highly structured, developmental approach to the teaching of reading, writing, and spelling. We work in whole groups, small groups, and independently. In addition reading comprehension, development of reading strategies, and the mechanics of language are also emphasized. We assess the children throughout the year to maintain a close watch on their progress and adjust for their needs.
At Cambridge Academy, we are proud of the success that our students have enjoyed using the Open Court Reading Program. Our students often score one and two grade levels above thier current grade level on standardized tests.
Science and Social Studies-Our Science lessons focus on plant studies, animal studies, and health. We make frequent visits the Lower School Science Lab. Our Kindergarteners also recieve monthly science lessons from our MIddle School science instructor, Shannon Bowers.
Social Studies lessons will focus on map skills, landforms, our community, our families, and character education. Social Studies support concepts covered in our Open Court Reading Units.
Our Special Area Classes-Kindergarten students enjoy Art, Music, P.E. (twice weekly), Spanish(twice weekly), Computer Lab, and Media Center.
